The needle sensor is a combination of a trocar needle and electrical impedance sensor. This allows the needle to take electrical impedance measurements at its point. Typically, tissues and substances present dissimilar electrical properties. In some situations these may be correlated with the type of tissue and pathologies. A simple measurement could for example confirm the insertion of the needle point in the renal collecting system. More advanced measurements could give indications regarding the presence of tumors.
